Before a Missed Period - Very Early Symptoms of Pregnancy

If you were to poll women as to what one of the very first early symptoms of pregnancy were, most would tell you a missed period. But actually a missed period isn't even in the top 5 very early indications that you could be pregnant. At least 5 other symptoms may have stopped by and said "Hello" before a woman has noticed that she has missed her period, and some of these symptoms may have shown up weeks before the scheduled period was due. So what are these five extremely early symptoms of pregnancy that may be noticed by a sensitive mother to be?

Elevated Basal Body Temperature

The basal body temperature (the lowest temperature your body has while in a state of rest) begins to elevate after ovulation and will stay elevated beyond your expected period if your are pregnant. When a mature egg is released from an ovary and pushed down the fallopian tube this is ovulation.  The egg is now ready to be fertilized by a sperm. About two to three weeks before the next period is missed, the implantation of a fertilized egg can occur (normally 6 - 12 days after ovulation). There can be a one-half to one degree Fahrenheit increase in your body's basal temperature that can indicate pregnancy. Using a special more accurate thermometer, this change in body basal temperature can happen as soon as two days after ovulation. Which can be as much as two weeks before you missed a period.

Breast Tenderness, Increased Breast Size and Nipple Enlargement

Irritation in nipples and changes including swelling and tenderness in your breasts is one of the very classical early signs of pregnancy. Uncomfortable bras and other articles of clothing are often blamed by women who notice these changes. The in-tune woman may notice these changes for the beauty that they are - new small life beginning to grow inside her. Areola, the dark area around the nipples often enlarge and darken in anticipation of breastfeeding the new baby. Hormonal releases in the body cause these changes and start immediately upon implantation. Darkening of the areolas, according to some experts serve the purpose of helping the newborn find the nipple for easier feeding. Most of the changes in your breasts and nipples will return to normal sometime after birth, depending on whether you choose to breastfeed or not.

Vomiting and Nausea

Morning Sickness as most of us know it is and early and disliked symptom of early pregnancy.  Often it occurs around the sixth week of pregnancy is some women it can occur earlier. Almost half of all mothers-to-be have morning sickness, though not all of them have the vomiting portion of this symptom. For many though vomiting is what follows the nausea. Many experts believe it is the increased hormone levels in the body that cause morning sickness.  They also think in it is a good sign that the baby is developing normally and is healthy. If you suffer from morning sickness that is joined by vomiting, please make sure you are staying hydrated and keeping your electrolyte levels up. Getting plenty of rest and napping through out the day also helps.

Constipation

Many times overlooked, this subtle sign of pregnancy is defined as less than three bowel movements per week. Often missed as many of use get constipated at one time or the other without ever being pregnant. Wrecking havoc on your digestive system, the constantly changing levels of the progesterone hormone can change the frequency and timing of your bowel movements. Usually just written off as an unrelated and irritating issue, many women do not realize that this can be an early symptom of pregnancy. Paying attention to any subtle changes in your body, like the changes in your breasts can tell a story.

Exhaustion and Fatigue

Don't confuse tiredness with fatigue, the difference can be huge. Being worn out and sleepy at the end of a long's day at work is expected and normal. Sleep allows the body to repair itself and make ready for another day, and tiredness is the body's signal that it needs rest. But fatigue is an abnormal bodily function and is usually the sign of something going on. Technically, fatigue has nothing to do with how tired your body is, and sleep does not resolve fatigue. Fatigue is often a sign of disease, certain cancers, auto-immune disorders and other conditions which include pregnancy. Again the dramatic rising levels of the hormone progesterone is often at least partially to blame for the fatigue that occurs mainly during the first trimester of pregnancy.  It is a sure sign of early pregnancy. Pregnancy often puts a huge strain on every function of your body - is it little wonder that you may feel totally exhausted before your day is over?

Are you experiencing one or more of these early signs of pregnancy?

Even if you only have a niggle in the back of your mind that you may be pregnant, go get a home pregnancy test from your local drug store and test yourself. That way you will know for sure, and if you are pregnant, congratulations!  Go tell your partner, your doctor/midwife, and start taking care of yourself and that new baby growing inside you.

So i guess i should start at the beginning my periods have always been really normal i usually get my period 29-31 days apart. My last period was feb. 9th. I am now late by almost a week. the reason i am asking is because i honestly am having all the normal symptoms of pregnancy i am 24 and have a 3 year old son i honestly feel like i am pregnant and feel exactly like i did before. Ive taken 3 at home pregnancy tests and all have come up negative.

I guess what im trying to say is that is 1). how often is at-home pregnancy tests wrong and 2). If i was pregnant how soon would it show if the last time i had sex was feb 12th, 13th, 14th, and 17th?
