where do needles for acupuncture go for fertility treatments?
I’m interested in trying acupuncture for fertility and I would like to know where they place the needles. I’m not asking for specifics, just general location like in the back of the neck or stomach or legs.

    • Dr. T says:

It’s going to depend on what the TCM (traditional Chinese Medicine) diagnosis is… but generally, you should expect to have some needles in your lower legs (near the knees, near the ankles or on your feet) and a few either in your abdomen or your back. And it’s also possible there will be one/some near the wrist.

If you’re nervous about the needles, let your doc know. There are things she can do to “distract” the nerves so you hardly feel a thing.

      Good luck!

I would think acupuncture for fertility is good because it takes your stress away which is one of the biggest problem when trying to conceive, i doubt it can do anything about chromosome problems.. they just occur once in a while and you can have a healthy pregnancy !

Has anyone tried acupuncture for fertility?
I have been trying to conceive for a year now and have been considering trying acupuncture. Has anyone tried this before? Is it a total waste of time?
No I do not mean fertility shots. I know that fertility drugs work.

I mean acupuncture. As in having needles put all over your body. There are special acupuncturist who specialize in fertility acupuncutre which is suppose to stimulate hormones and ovulation?

    • Tina has Twins says:

I did a workshop to support women trying to conceive and we looked into meditation, yoga, talk therapy, counseling, nutrition and acupuncture.

Acupuncture is thought to be very successful when used in conjunction with fertility treatments and some women who have had ovulation issues start to ovulate as a result of acupuncture. I have a friend who swears it helped her with ovulation and a luteal phase defect.

From personal experience, it was more of a stress reliever than anything else. . . . if you can afford it, it cannot hurt and might help – just find someone experienced and who specializes in fertility.

I went to acupuncture weekly for over a year and didn’t have any luck. I stopped going regularly then finally had success with my second IVF. I do think it made my menstruation more healthy. The color had improved drastically. I really think that was due more to the herbs than the actual acupuncture. I didn’t have any changes for the first 8 months, then started strong herbs and saw the change.

The acupuncture definitely helped with my migraines and anytime I went in with locked muscles they were relieved immediately. So I guess in a round about way it helped b/c it seemed to make my uterine lining more healthy – even though that was the reason why I wasn’t getting pregnant.

      good luck :-)
